volt.toml
The project file next to main.volt that says which chip you're building for.
Every project has a volt.toml beside its main.volt:
[project]
chip = "esp32"Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
chip | The chip to check and build for. Required. |
name | The firmware’s name. Defaults to the folder’s name. |
optimize | How the C compiler optimises: debug, size or speed. volt build --optimize overrides it. |
Chips
chip | Also accepted | Boards |
|---|---|---|
esp32 | esp32-wroom | ESP32-DevKitC and other ESP32-WROOM boards |
esp8266 | esp12 | NodeMCU, Wemos D1 mini and other ESP-12 boards |
rp2040 | pico | Raspberry Pi Pico |
The chip isn’t written in main.volt, so the same program can be checked against another chip by changing one line. Pins, buses and features are checked against the chip you choose: an ESP8266 has no DAC and no Bluetooth, an RP2040 has no Wi-Fi.
